Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Luciano fell over me when he lost consciousness midway through coughing blood. I screamed out of fright and was almost at the verge of crying before the other cars following us stopped and Jacqueline ran toward me.
Deep wrinkles formed in her forehead. "Oh, God, what happened?" She questioned, swinging her hand over his shoulder and keeping him up.
I turned my head around and watched Ben approach me with concern. My heart raced and I said, "I don't know, we were just talking and then suddenly he started coughing—I don't know."
"Woah," Ben took Luciano from my hands and placed him back inside the car. He pressed his fingers against his neck and checked on his pulse. "Well, he's alive so that's a good thing." He murmured under his breath before getting out and looking at us.
The lump in my throat grew larger and I couldn't thinking about what was happening. Why was he coughing? Why did he pass out?
"Is he going to be okay?" I sped toward Ben and asked.
"I'm not a doctor, Red but I guess he got a little exhausted. He'll wake up. We have to go home immediately. I'll come with you." He quickly replied, grabbing the handle of the front passenger door and yanking it open.
Tears wetted my cheeks as I turned around to see Jacqueline and the other's standing beside.
"Go. We will see you at the house." She gave me a gentle pat over my shoulder before nodding. "It's okay."
Blinking the tears off my lashes, I sped back into the car and got in from the other side. The driver took off, racing out of wherever we were, he went on a higher speeding, ignoring the dangers and the mist surrounding us.
Luciano's head rested over my lap. I didn't take my eyes off him, not even for a second. Pain hurled in my chest. I swept my fingers across his hair and prayed that he would wake up soon. It could've been the all the traveling that may have exhausted him out but a part of me didn't believe it.
"He's not waking up, Ben!" I said, my voice breaking.
"We are almost there. Check on his pulse, is it there?" He twisted around and instructed.
"Yes, it's there but why isn't he waking up, it's been almost an hour—" I snapped my eyes towards the windows of the car. "And why aren't we home yet?" I grunted and pressed my palm against my eye to wipe away the tears that blurred my vision.
"Hey, hey, it's going to be fine and we are almost there, Red." Ben tried his best to give me comfort but it wasn't helping when Luciano was literally dead on my lap.
My sobbing came in short pauses. I curled my hand around Luciano and held him tighter till we reached the house. It was ten minutes later it came in my view. As soon as the car stopped by the entrance, Vincent ran towards us and I stepped out of the car.
Ben had called him a few minutes earlier and informed him about the incident that happened.
"He isn't waking up. I tried." I said to Vincent as he carried him out of the car and into the house.
I followed him into the bedroom and Vincent placed him down on the bed. Standing by the corner, I chewed on my nails while waiting for Luciano to wake up.
"Warmth. He's too cold." Vincent stated.
The temperature inside the room was almost freezing as the windows were wide open. I dragged them and shut them close immediately while Ben worked on burning the woods in the furnace.
Jacqueline came a couple minutes after us and when she did, she came straight into the room and chanted a couple of words over Luciano.
When her chanting ended, I asked, "What's wrong with him?"
"I have no idea. Can you go to my room and get some vervain from the garden in the balcony? It should trigger his wolf and that would awake him as far as I know." She explained.
I didn't waste a single second and moved out of my room. I cut through the other rooms and went directly into Jacqueline's before plucking out the purple plants that were connected with werewolves. I heaved in a breath and returned back to Luciano, who still hadn't moved.
"Burn it and bring it here." Jacqueline instructed, glancing at the fire in the furnace.
Holding the stems, I burned the plant over the fire and the smoke began to flutter in the air, I bought it back and swirled it over the air. The scent quickened my heartbeat, and warmed up my own body. My wolf shook inside me, struggling to come out when I didn't allow her too.
Luciano jerked awake at the scent of vervain. His eyes were dark red, almost black and he had a face of pain.
"Burn it out now!" Vincent exclaimed. It wasn't just his or Luciano's wolf that was being triggered, it was everyone's inside the room apart from Jacqueline as she was a pure witch.
I threw the vervain out of the window and the cold caught up to it. The scent slowly left the room and Luciano gained conscious as his eyes returned to his normal ones.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, still tensed.
He wrapped his hand around mine, "Yeah, I'm fine now." He glanced over at his parents. "What happened?"
"You were passed out for over an hour." Vincent replied, patting his shoulder and getting off the bed. "Did you have something wrong in Lunaris or maybe chugged on a potion thinking it was beer?"
"No!" He laughed.
And so did I.
And everyone else.
I sighed out of relief and pressed my head against his. "I was so worried." The tears finally went away and I smiled happily, seeing him all fine and doing well.
I wanted nothing more.
It took a minute for Jacqueline to shake off the feeling away as she was his Mother and watching this was hard for her.
"You seem fine now but—" she paused and turned her eyes on me. "—we will have to take him to a healer if something worsens. It seems like something is wrong with his wolf."
I cocked my head at Luciano and looked him from up to down. "But he's fine—I mean, his wolf. You shifted last night, didn't you?"
"Yeah," He shrugged.
Jacqueline kept quiet and narrowed her eyes. She was sensing something but she kept it to herself. Luciano took her hand and assured her, "It's okay, Mother, I'm fine. I had just been stressed over the past few weeks, maybe the stress finally got to me."
She smiled at him and nodded, "Okay, I believe you but take some rest, we will talk tomorrow."
With that, everyone cleared out of the room, leaving Luciano and me alone to ourselves for the night.
