Mirrors

Caia reached out to touch the mirror; to make sure she wasn't hallucinating. She reached out a pale arm and.. she couldn't feel it. It turned to mist in her hand. She was expecting to feel something solid, and put too much force onto the mirror, that, apparently, didn't exist. The effect of this action? She was now

down. She landed, rather harshly, flat on her back, knocking the wind out of the black haired 15-year-old.  Caia just rested on the cold, hard ground for a second, processing what just happened. Something was coating Caia's face. She twitched her nose. She was just so... tired. She scrunched up her nose and kept her eyes shut. It was cold. Not the hot chocolate fixing cold, the bone chilling cold. She shivered involuntarily. She opened her dark blue eyes. She was in a forest. A dark, bare, snowy forest. She groaned and sat up cautiously. She heard a twig behind her, and stood up immediately, wishing she had something other than her hands.
"Hello?"
"A human? Oh, no, no, no, you cannot be here. Or can you? NO!!! You can NOT be here. Notice I said not. People can get confused on whether I said can or can't, so I'm making it clear to you-"
"Alright, that's enough," Caia interrupted, "who are you?"
"Oh, me? I'm just a silly old pixie," the voice said, emerging from the shadows. It was the voice of a young girl; she looked about ten. She had white hair, and frosty white skin, tinged with a dark green. I took notice that at the beginning of our introduction, her eyes were a dark green. They then changed to a distinct pink. Her eyes were surrounded by dark, long lashes. She was wearing a dress made out of a flower, it was a lilac. It seemed to shimmer every time she moved. The most interesting feature, however, were her wings. They were translucent, and had a golden tinge to them. She fluttered them anxiously.
"I'm Caia," Caia replied, holding out her hand expectantly.
"I'm Fern," the pixie replied, Caia taking notice that her eyes again changed color, they were now a dandelion yellow.
"Why can't I be here?" Caia interrogated.
"The universe doesn't allow it," she said simply.
"What?" Caia asked.
"You need to be gone within five days, or you will never have your life back on Earth."
"I have so many questions," Caia stated.
"I know," Fern said sympathetically.
"Oh! There's probably one other thing you should know," she mused nervously, her ever-changing eyes again turning to a forest green.
Caia's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"What?" Caia asked, a little weary of what Fern was going to say.
"You have powers." Fern stated simply.
"...What?" Caia said, a bit disbelieving, a bit hysterical. She was a bit overwhelmed.
"After you have been in Eplar for a while, you will start to feel the power running through your veins," Fern explained patiently.
"Eplar?" Caia wondered aloud.
"Our world," Fern explained, "The reason you have powers is the air has a higher oxygen content, making you jump higher, so high you can fly, actually, and have a higher brain function."
Fern's eyes once again changed color, this time reaching a glowing silver, but after she spoke, once again turned to a bright pink.
"Oh," Caia said simply. Just one word. One word was supposed to explain her confusion and doubt and every other emotion she was feeling. She just wanted to go home. Quite ironic, actually. Just a day before, she had wanted to leave so badly it hurt. Caia shivered. She didn't know if it was because of the information or of her surroundings. Fern seemed to take notice of this involuntary action.
"Oh, sorry. I forgot that this is cold to you," Fern fluttered, her eyes turning a vibrant orange and her hands folded busily and she hunched in on herself. She quickly recovered from this event, and her eyes once again turned to a neon pink and she waved her delicate, tinged green fingers and Caia, suddenly, found herself in a heavy coat that fit her perfectly. She looked at Fern with wide eyes.
"How?" Caia gaped. Fern's eyes turned a golden yellow as they glittered with amusement.
"I am a pixie, in case you have forgotten," Fern laughed.
"Right." Caia stuttered sheepishly. Her eyes felt extremely heavy and she swayed. Fern reacted almost instantly, her eyes turning the color of blue topaz as she caught Caia and gently laid her on the ground.
"You should sleep, we have a big day tomorrow," Caia heard Fern whisper before she gratefully welcomed the darkness that surrounded Caia.
