I awoke early the next morning heading to my old room to check on Ella and Thomas. They were sound asleep, I smiled, 'family...' with that thought before I could further depress myself I went down stairs looking around the room.

My eyes fell on something that hadn't been there before, a basket, I walked over seeing that it was full of various fruits and a letter. I picked up the letter and opened it,

Dear Scarlet,

I'm sorry for yesterday.

I cocked my eyebrow, the card was surprisingly short, sweet, and to the point... so unlike him. I shrugged at least he was kind enough to provide me and Thomas a breakfast.

I went to the kitchen and prepare the fruit for us to eat mentally going over my schedule for today, 'ok... I need to work on unpacking some more, then I need to go get food, and exchange money... Oh! I see the plantation!'

I nodded at my work and carried the plates upstairs, carefully opening the door so it wouldn't wake Thomas and Ella. I placed his fruit down next to him then sat down munching on my breakfast watching everyone outside the window, and the two of them.

Once I finish I decide it was time to wake Thomas so he could eat, then I would look through the crates to find our ingredients for a herbs soup for Ella. I went back down and opened a crate finding more of my personal belongings.

I sighed looking at the room full of crates it was going to be a while to find a lot of the right tools to make her soup.

About an hour later I had finally gathered all the things need and grabbed the herbs needed, heading to the kitchen. I finished making her soup and brought it upstairs.

I opened the door peeking in seeing Ella siting up looking around confused. "Where... am I?" She asked looking at Thomas.

"We're at the doctor's shop, she help you get better." Thomas said gratefully.

"Grandpa... is that the doctor?" She asked pointing to me.

I stepped forward smiling, "yes... how are you feeling Miss Ella?" I asked her still hold the soup.

Her stomach growled, she blushed placing a hand on it, "better just hungry..." she said shyly.

I giggled at her placing the bowl of soup in her hands, "here eat this, it's good for you and tasty." I said.

She looked at it lifting the spoon to her nose sniffing it, she cocked an eyebrow in acceptance taking a small sip. Her eyes widened in shock and she began munching happily on it.

Me and Thomas chuckled at her, "well I'll be downstairs working on unpacking if you need me just call." I said turning to leave them when Ella called out to me.

"Thank you Miss!" She said smiling brightly.

"You're very welcome..." I said nodding to her, it always warmed my heart helping people.

I went down setting to work on unloading the crates thinking about Unitsi, and what Thomas had said yesterday. I don't believe she was part of those Savages, cause wouldn't she have killed me?

I cleared and put away two crates out of the remaining twelve, I stretched heading upstairs to Thomas and Ella. They were laughing through the door, I knocked peeking in at them.

"I'm going to going around town now, just wanted to let you know that."

"Oh okay." Thomas said.

"Where are you going?" Ella asked.

I shrugged, "Just around to learn the town, since I'm new here."

Ella smiled, "yeah they have really fun places here!" She said enthusiastically.

I nodded, "So I'll be back a little later, I'll do a check up on Ella then."

I walked out on the street looking at the bustling town, I remembered Thomas's directions to the plantation so I slowly made my way down the long road. I greeted a few people who would look at me strangely.

The further down the path I got, the quieter it was; almost eerie, which made me tense up. A howl came from up the path and I froze, 'What was that?' I thought as I cautiously stalked forward.

An opening through the brush allowed me to view through from the safetyof the bushes. I gasped at the horrifying sight that played out before me.

Groups of colored skin people were being beat with whips, I cringed as my eyes filled with tears. How could a human being do that to another human?

With every lash a cry of anguish called out after the fourth on I couldn't take it anymore. I ran from the safety of the brush out to the group, "STOP!!!" I yelled rushing in front of the man with the whip blocking the beaten people.

He hesitated, "Move girl! We don't have time to play games, these Savages need to be taught who's in charge." The man growled at me.

"Then there's a better way to do that! They're humans not animals! They can understand us perfectly fine!" I yelled at his.

"What did you say?!"

"You're an inhumane jerk!" I spat out.

He brought his free hand down across my face knocking me to the side. "Shut up brat! You better get out of her' before something happens to you!"

I placed and hand on my stinging cheek, "have you ever considered what kills people around here the most? It's not the attacks... it's illness." I hissed getting to my feet.

"How does the illness spread? When you do stuff like this!" I pointed and the huddled group of scared, beaten, individuals.

"So what if they die, the better!"

I shook my head, "I don't think the owner would agree... besides I'm the new doctor in town don't get on my bad side cause if I see you sick in my shop I'm not going to treat you!" I glared at him.

"Hey she has it right she is our doctor now... plus I don't want to catch no diseases from these savages." One of the other guys hissed spitting at the group.

"Fine let's go." The leader said walking away  leaving the group of people with me.

"Get back to work!" A holler trailed back from where they went.

I sighed and turned to the group, "I'm so sorry for how they are treating you..."
