"Yes." I hear a voice. My head hurts when I open my eyes. I blink quite a few times before I can see. I see Ashley's in the room talking to Jake. This room is darker than when I first had tests done. The lights aren't very bright, but it still looks like a hospital. The walls and floor are white again. I move a little and see I'm in a hospital bed. At least that's what it looks like. I sit up and Ashley looks over at me. "Corrine. Please stay put." She says and walks over to me.
"Don't. I don't want to hurt you again." I say and push myself further into the hard bed.
"You won't and you didn't really hurt me. I was just a little cold." She says and tries to lighten the mood. I don't move or say anything though. "Corrine you passed out because of exhaustion. Your body gave up because it was tired. I couldn't help you before because you were still in a stage of being able to confess me. May I help. I just want to get water into your bloodstream. I just need to put a needle in your arm." She says. Needles and showing her my arm. No, no not happening.
"No, I'll just drink water." I say and stand up. I feel dizzy and fall back on the bed.
"Corrine, please." She says, but I shake my head, telling her to stay away.
"Corrine we want to help you, you just have to let us. You're safe here, I promise." Jake says and walks closer to me.
"No, don't touch me." I say shaking my head again. Bad idea because I feel like it's spinning.
"Then drink this." Ashley says and hands me a big cup. The stuff is a reddish, but doesn't have a smell to it.
"What is it?" I ask not wanting to drink it. I look up at her and see seems to be happy that I've asked her.
"It'll help with the dizziness and getting you hydrated." She says. I look back at the red water. I take a deep breath and drink it. It tastes like water, and once I finish the cup my head doesn't hurt much and I don't feel as dizzy. I hand her the cup back and she puts it in the sink. I stand up and I'm still a little wobbly, but that could just be my clumsiness.
"Corrine, you need to get sleep. Please, just lay down and rest." Ashley says with concern on her face and in her voice.
"No, I've been to much trouble already. Thanks for your help, but I can handle myself." I say and start walking to the door.
"No. We are going to help you. This is what we are here to do. You haven't been trouble, trust me." Jake says and blocks the door so I can't get out. I take a deep breath before saying anything to them.
"I have been trouble and I've been on my own before, I can do it again." I say and try to walk around him and grab the handle.
"No, we have some really bad people that come here. We are here and we are going to help you, weather you want us to. I'll have someone follow you if need be." He says and looks at me.
"OK, I'll stay. May I just stay in the room?" I ask and turn to Ashley. She nods her head and sighs. Jake moves away from the door so I can open it. I start walking down the hallway. I make a turn because it looks familiar. I hear people talking behind me. They continue to go straight while I turn again. I still feel dizzy, but it just feels like when I hit my head on the wall or something, when Greg threw me or pushed me. I lean on the walls to keep my balance.
When I finally find the hallway that my rooms on I feel happier. I lean off the wall and walk to my door. I end up tripping into my room with my feet out the door. "How'd I manage that?" I ask myself and huff.
"You OK?" I hear someone ask. They help me up and on my feet. I look up and nod my head.
"Sam? What are you doing?" I ask as he let's go off me. His face looks a little pink. Maybe I'm seeing things. Stupid water.
"Just walking to my room and saw feet." He says making me laugh a little.
"Yeah tripped over air." I say and lean against the door frame to gain some balance.
He laughs. "Nice one." He says shaking his head.
"I know." I say while he looks at me. "I'm sorry abou-"
"No, I shouldn't have been listening it was my fault. I knew not to. I'm sorry." He says and looks at the ground.
"It's ok, but tell me what you heard. Everything." I say and he lifts his head to look at me.
"You have been abused sense three and you've been suicidal." He says and I feel relief and yet I'm scared what he'll think of me.
"Is that all?" I ask finding my voice. He looks at me and shakes his head yes, but I think he's lying. "Tell me the truth." I say and he looks back at the ground.
"I heard you've been rapped." He says, but doesn't look up at me.
"Please don't say anything to anyone, it was once and no one should-"
"I won't, promise and it doesn't make a difference if it was just once." He says interrupting me. He looks up at me and I believe him. I don't know why I trust that he'll keep it a secret, but I feel that he will. As for there's no difference, for me it was. I know people who've had it happen many times, it's not like it was someone weekly for me.
"I hope that's a real promise." I say and lean off the wall.
"It is." He says. I look at my phone. 12:04. Not going on that boat thing, I guess. Doesn't matter though, I need to get away from everyone before I hurt them.
"Hey I have a question. Do you like that boat thing? It's for people that can move the water." I ask to get him talking and he shakes his head.
"I don't do boats, so I don't know." He says and I raise my eyebrows.
"Why don't you like boats?" I ask curious.
"Not a strong swimmer and I don't like being on something that can sink." He says and I nod my head, but I don't think it's the real reason.
"When was the last time you were on a boat?" I ask. His face drops and I see pain in his eyes.
"I was 16 with a friend." He says and looks at me. "I have to go. I'll see you tomorrow." He says before walking away. He must have had a bad experience with boats, judging by his face. I close my door feeling tired. I go to my corner, but stub my toe on the bed.
"Ow. Really? Stupid bed. Mother fridger." I say holding my toe. I looks red and puffy. "Ok watch where you walk Alexis." I tell myself being careful not to hurt myself again. Once I get into my corner I pull my blanket over me and try get some sleep. I'll leave tomorrow when I can walk straight.
***
I wake up, but feel cushion under me. I open my eyes confused. I look and see I'm on the bed. How did I get up here? Then my door opens and Carol walks in.
"Hey, good your up. Meet me in like 20 minutes. We are training early today." She says and walks back out the door leaving me even more confused. I look over at my clock. 6:04am. I want to kill her. It's way too early to be up. I grown, but get ready. I have to go because if I don't then he'll find me. I'll leave after I practice with them.
Once I walk outside I see the clouds. I am really not liking this summer. I walk further into the forest and find Carol and Sam waiting. I end up tripping over a branch and fall on my butt. They both look at me and try not to laugh. "Ow." I say and get back up.
"How are you so clumsy"?" Carol asks before she starts laughing.
"I have no clue, small feet." I say folding my arms at both of them. Sam looks likes he's trying to stop laughing, but fails.
"That was funny. It was a little stick too." He says trying not to laugh.
"Whatever can we just start?" I ask and Carol nods her head.
"Ok, now that you can somewhat get control both me and Sam will be staying things." She says and turns serious. I nod my head and as soon as Sam says something about family I know I've lost control.
"Ok. Corrine take control." I hear Carol say. I block her out and stare at Sam. He stares back and stays put. I turn away from them and grab my head and close my eyes tightly. You need to be in control. I decide what to do and I don't want to hurt them. I feel the feeling go away. I open my eyes and turn back to them. Sam lets out a deep breath.
"That scared the living shit out of me." He says and a smile forms on my lips.
"Good job. You're getting better, but there is still a lot we have to work on. Jake said only one lesson, so we are done today." She says and I mentally yell YES.
"Kay, come on let's go to the pond." Sam says and starts leading the way. I make sure to watch where I'm going so hopefully I don't trip and fall again. When we reach the little pond Sam makes little balls of water. "Kay, let's try this again. Oh and Carol you might want to back away unless you're in the mood to get wet." He says and Carol backs far away. He stands next to me and we both do the motions. I get some of the water out the pond, but when I try to form it, it goes splashing down. "Hey, just relax and try again." Sam says. I nod my head and try again and again and again.
"I just can't do it. Ok." I say frustrated.
"Yes you can. This is hard to learn. You just have to keep tryi-"
"No, I'm tired of this. I can't do it." I say and throw and rock into the pond. I take a seat and then Sam sits next to me.
"We'll try tomorrow." He says. I huff, but don't say anything. I'm not going to be here tomorrow, so have fun with that.
"Why don't we go and meet with Sarah?" Carol asks and walks up to us.
"Yeah, lets go." I say standing up. I can actually do that. Carol leads the way, but when I see Sarah we are in a different place than last time. "Why are we training here?" I ask her. She smiles a little.
"Because this is harder to do and it'll help you out." She says and throws a big rock at me. I split in two just as it almost hits me. Carol screams when it comes flying to her, but Sarah moves it and throws it to the side.
"SARAH!" Carol yells.
"Sorry. If you two stand over there you should be safe." Sarah says. Sam and Carol walk over to where she pointed. Sam has his arms crossed and Carol sits on the rock. "Ready?" Sarah asks. I don't get to respond because two rocks come flying at me. I move out the way but then she throws four more at me. I take all four of them and turn them back at her.
She moves out the way easily. Then she traps me in a box like thing. She starts pushing all the walls in at me. I try to stop them, but then realize that I can just rise the ground under me. I rise up and then so does she. We are both like 12 feet away from the ground. She starts throwing rocks at me. I manage not to get hit by any of them and throw a few at her. She starts throwing larger rocks and I can't move out the way. I jump off and bring rock for my feet to land on. I bring myself down and she does the same.
"How do you know what to do?" She asks walking towards me.
"I just do it and it does it." I say and smile at her. She looks upset, but before she can say anything Carol comes by us.
"Wow and this is just your second day." She says with wide eyes. "I've never known anyone to be this good." She says and Sarah makes an unpleasant noise.
"She will only need a little more training. I'll tell Jake." She says and walks off.
"I don't think she likes me." I say before Carol and I start laughing.
"You're really good." She says and looks over at Sam. They both share a look before looking at me.
"What?" I ask. Sam shrugs at Carol and she nods her head. "Hello?" I say to them.
"Nothing." They both say.
"Riiiight." I say not believing them, but not saying anything. Then I feel water start falling on me. I look up and then hear the thunder. Just great.
"Let's go back inside." Sam says. Carol and I nod our heads before jogging back up to the building. By the time we get inside we are all soaking wet. We all walk to our rooms and get dry clothes. I put sweatpants on and a tank top. I glance at the clock and see it's almost time for breakfast. Kay, I'll pack now, have lunch and then leave. Then I hear a knock and then my door opens. I quickly grab one of my sweatshirts and pull it on, making sure my cuts are covered.
"Hey you coming for breakfast?" Carol asks. I nod my head relieved that she didn't see anything. I follow her down to the breakfast area. When we get in the breakfast area I see Sam by himself and watching us as we walk in. Just as we sit down the little light beeps. We get back up and go to get our food.
"These are awesome pancakes." I say and take another bit of one. I grabbed two hoping I can finish both. I also got a hash brown, but I think I'll be able to finish it all. If not I'll save it for when I leave.
"I know." Carol says with pancake still in her mouth. Sam is still across the table on the end like I am. He keeps his focus on eating, but then he glances up at me.
"You like the pancakes?" I ask and feel my face get warm. Why? I have no clue.
"Yeah, they're pretty good." He says before looking back at his plate. Then a guy plops right next to him.
"Hey Sam." He says. Sam looks over at him in surprise.
"You're back man. You didn't tell me." He says and they do a man hug.
"Who is he?" I whisper to Carol.
"That's Matt. Sam's best friend. He was on a trip, but I guess he's back now." She says and starts eating again.
"Hey, are you new?" He asks. I look over at Sam and back at Matt.
I nod my head feeling shy.
"Matt." He says and extends his hand.
"Corrine." I say and shake his hand.
"You're really hot. Where are you from?" He asks. I feel my cheeks get warm. Sam slaps his head. "Ow." He says and looks at Sam. I hold back a laugh.
"Don't say that." He says in a low voice.
"Fine, sorry. Sam is being a baby. Let me rephrase that. You are very pretty. Where are you from?" He says and looks at me and takes the apple off of Sam's plate. He takes a bite before I answer.
"Born in Montana, but lived in Wisconsin for a long time." I say and start eating my hash brown.
"Used to the cold then." He says. I nod my head. And then he starts talking with Carol. I block them out and look outside. I feel a knot in the pit of my stomach. It was in the past, leave it there. I tell myself, but then the lights flicker.
"See you guys later. I'm going to go to my room." Carol nods and waves. I put my tray away and quickly walk to my room.
Once I get in I feel really warm. I take my sweatshirt off and throw it somewhere. Then I hear the thunder. I feel the memories come rushing in my brain. I walk into my bathroom and grab my razor. I start making cuts and the pain makes the memories go away. I feel my blood run down my arm. It's warm against my skin and it feels thick. I look and my arms and then a teardrop falls on one of the open cuts. It burns and I throw the razor in the shower. I start rinsing my arms with water. It hurts, but it also feels good. (If you do this to yourself. Please talk to someone. It's not a good way to live. Talk to me if you need to, just make sure to tell someone. Here is 2 help numbers 855-937-3071 or 877-582-6051. Don't ignore this if it applies to you.)
When the bleeding final stops I go back out and into my room. Then I hear my door open. Sam walks in and stares at me. I turn away from him and wipe my eyes. Pull it together. I tell myself, but then I hear thunder again. Then the lights go out. "Corrine?" I hear Sam say.
"Yeah?" I ask and then hear footsteps.
"Do you have your phone with you?" I hear him ask and then I feel a shoulder brush mine.
"Ya, but it's on the other nightstand." I say. He huffs. "I'll try and find it." I say and hold my hands out so I don't hit anything. I feel my bed sheets and then they're gone. I turn right and start walking again. Once I feel the wall, I turn again and start walking. Then my toe hits something. Something HARD. "Owwww. Same flipping toe." I yell.
"What'd you do?" I hear Sam ask with some concern in his voice.
"My toe hit my nightstand." I say and start feeling for my phone. Then I feel it. I try turning it on, but it won't. Then I remember. "I forgot to charge it." I say and slap my hand to my forehead.
"I'm going to go grab mine and then we can find the breaker." He says and I hear footsteps. I hear the door open and I start walking. I see him come out with his phone and the flashlight on.
"Kay, let's go turn our breaker on." He says and starts walking. I follow silently behind him.
"Hey you going to the breaker?" Someone says. Sam points his light near him.
"Ya, I'll get the lights up." Sam says. The guy nods his head and Sam starts walking again. When we finally get to the room he makes me hold his phone so he can find the switches. He switches like five different ones and then the lights come on again. "Easy." He says and looks at me. He takes his phone back and we start walking out. We see a few people that were going to the same room. Guess we were just the first people.
When we get back to my room Sam stops at my door. "Hey, we have to get the food this week. So, when do you- What happened?" He asks stopping what he was going to say. I look at him confused and when he looks back up at me he looks angry. "Why? Why would you do something like that?" He asks walking towards me. I start backing up.
"Do w-what?" I ask as my back hits the wall. He takes another step towards me and grabs my arm.
"This." He says and I look at my cuts. Dammit. I forgot to put something over me. "Why would you ever do this?" He says in a stern voice and looks me straight in the eyes. I feel like I'm only two inches tall. "Why?" He says louder and puts one hand by my head.
"B-Because." I say. But he gets closer to me.
"Tell me the real reason." He says. I feel some confidence rise in me.
"No." I say and he spins around in frustration.
"Tell me why? How could you do this to yourself? Were things this bad you had to cause yourself more pain?" He asks closer to me than before. I feel myself take a sharp breath.
"You have no clue what I went through, all of the pain that they caused." I yell at him. Shock is all over his face, like he just remembered I don't have a perfect life. I push his chest because he was right up to me. He moves so I can get away, but stares at me. "What?" I ask and I feel my confidence drop.
"Why with pain, though. Why not tell someone? Or try to get the police?" He asks, but he doesn't understand.
"It never works ok. Just don't say anything to Jake or Ashley. Just drop it." I say and turn around because I feel tears come down my face.
"You've tried to get help?" He asks in a soft voice and I hear him walk closer to me.
"Yes, and when I did he lied to the cops and they believed him. I finally talked to someone, but he found out and then talked to her, saying I had a disorder. She believed him. They always believe him." I say and Sam walks in front of me. I go to turn the other way, but he pulls me into a hug. I'm surprised at first, but relax into him.
"I'm sorry." He says. I lean my head on his shoulder.
"Hey, Corr- Um is everything ok?" I hear Carol's voice. I let go of Sam and nod my head wiping my eyes.
"Yeah, just startled myself." I lie. I make sure to not show my arms when I grab a sweatshirt. After I have it on I wipe my eyes again. "Just had to get it out somehow." I say and force a smile.
"Sorry about that. I just wanted to tell you that you guys have some shopping to do." She says and looks at me and then Sam.
"Ya, I came in here to tell her." He says.
Carol nods her head. "Ok, well sorry about freak out, but have a nice night." She says before walking away. Sam turns to me.
"Why don't you want people to know?" He asks and sits on the end of my bed.
"They don't need to know and if they do most people get hurt because they do know. You can handle yourself in a fight and he already hates you because you took me away so." I say and he nods his head.
"We'll leave in like two hours." He says and stands back up.
"Ok, can I just be by myself?" I ask and he looks at me.
"If you promise not to hurt yourself." He says and I nod my head. "Hope that's a real promise." He says before leaving. I surprises me to hear him use my own words. Instead of thinking about it, I quickly grab my bag and put the best clothes in it, then my blanket, and my notebook. Once I zipped it, I put it on my back and make my way outside.
I take a few steps and look back at the place. I'll miss it, but I don't want to be a burden any longer. I make my way into the forest. My sweatshirt and pants are wet, but I don't care. I look around and it looks beautiful. Just the forest and me. I hear thunder, but keep walking.
I feel like somebody's watching me though. I turn around, but don't see anyone. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I start walking again, but then there is a crunch. I turn and someone runs behind a tree. I narrow my eyes and walk over to the tree. Once I'm only a few inches away Sam pops out.
"What are you doing?" I ask angry that he was following me.
"I could ask you the same thing." He says and steps out to be right in front of me.
"It's nothing, just a walk." I lie, but he sees right through it.
"Why bring your clothes then?" He says and folds his arms. I'm not getting out of this. I move my foot back and then push a rock at him. He falls to the ground and I run the other direction. I run around a tree and trip. I see Sam get up and start chasing me. I quickly get off the ground and run. I hear him behind me though. He's too fast for me. Then he grabs me around the waist. My backpack flies off because it was only on one shoulder and lands on the ground by the tree. Sam keeps pulling me while he's walking.
"No, let me go." I say and try to get him to loosen his grip on me. He doesn't so I elbow him in the chest, knowing I'm bony and it hurts. His grips loosens a little, but not enough for me to get away. The bad part of this is I like his arm around my waist. Why can't I control these feelings?
"Stop. Corrine." He says. I stomp on his foot and elbow him again remembering that I need to get away from him. He grunts falling to the floor and then trips me so I fall. He catches my head before it can hit the ground though. He grabs my hands and pins them above my head. He kneels straddling me. "Corrine. You can't run away. We want to help you. People will try to hurt you if you don't know how to control it. People will do experiments on you. Do you want that?" He asks out of breath leaning towards me to keep my hands pinned to the ground and he is only about two inches from my face.
"It's already happened so what's the difference?" I ask looking up at him. I stop struggling because it's not getting me anywhere.
"What do you mean?" He asks. I laugh a little out of irritation.
"People have experimented on me before. Why do you think I didn't want to go to a doctor." I say and close my eyes. I feel the water drop on my face and then go all the way into my hair.
"Why didn't you say anything?" I hear him ask.
"Because there is no reason to burden anyone with my problems." I say opening my eyes.
"News flash that's what we are here for. Do you not understand that we want to help you?" He asks letting go of my hands and getting off of me. I put my hands down at my sides, but stay laying on the floor.
"I don't want to hurt anyone or get anyone hurt." I say and then the raining stops again.
"No one will-"
"You can't say that. I have hurt Ashley and I have almost hurt you." I say angrily and sit up just a few inches away from him.
"We are all alive aren't we?" He asks. I stay quiet and look the opposite way of him. "If you don't run I won't tell Jake." He says. I turn my head to him. He will never get it.
"Why can't you just say you didn't find me?" I ask and stand up. He stands up just as quickly.
"Because I don't want you to be hurting anymore, Jake would kill me, and he'd find you again." He says. I ignore him and try to think of a way to get away from him. If I trap him in that rock thing then he won't able to chase me. I go to take a step back, but he grabs my hands, twists me, and pulls me towards him. "Don't even try it." He says. My back is to his chest and he has my hands in one of his hands. Stupid small wrists. I try to get out his grip, but fail miserably. "Stop, you're only making this worse for yourself." He says right next to my ear. Being close to him is messing with my head and my body.
"Fine, I won't try to run. Can you let me go?" I ask.
"How do I know you're not going to run?" He asks. I put my head on his chest to look up at him.
"I won't run away from you." I say looking in his eyes. He lets my hands go and I take a step away from him.
"I won't say anything as long as you don't try to run again." He says stopping me from grabbing my backpack. I look back up at him and nod. "Ok, then why don't we just go get food after we change?" He asks, but sounds more of a statement and then starts walking back. I stay quiet and follow.
***
When I finally get everything that was on the list he gave me I have two carts that are almost overflowing. I had to organize all the boxes to get everything to fit in only two carts. When I get to check out Sam is behind me with three carts. How he managed to push all of them I have no clue. Then the cashier sees us. "Hey Sam." He says with a bright smile. The guy looks to be in his late 40s. His hair is grey, well the hair he has left and his face is a little wrinkled.
"Hey, Zachary. How's it be going?" Sam asks casually.
"Good and when I get through with this, great. You guys are the only reason I can afford such great things." He says and chuckles to himself. He puts more food in the bags. "Who are you young lady?" He asks and glances up at me before scanning more boxes.
"Corrine. Just a friend." I say and glance at Sam. He's busy putting the bags in one of the carts.
"Nice to meet you." He says and smiles at me. I smile back before we all go into silence. I make sure to keep the food on the belt and Sam puts it in a cart. "Alllllll done." Zachary says and huffs, but has a smile on his face. "4,848.98 dollars." He says. I feel my mouth fall open. That much just for food! Sam pulls two cards threw the thing before the whole thing is paid. "No receipt, right." He asks. Sam nods his head before grabbing two carts. "I'll help you with the carts." He says. We now have six carts full of bags and food. Everyone takes two. When we see outside we all freeze. It's raining so hard you can't see a foot ahead of you.
"Well stay close and let's get the truck loaded." Sam says before running out. Once I step a foot outside I'm drenched for the second time today. We all get to the truck after finally spotting it and start loading it up. By the time we are done I feel like I'm in a pool. Zachary takes the carts back and Sam and I hope in the truck wet and freezing. "My gosh it's cold." He says. I nod my head shaking. Sam starts moving his hands and then my clothes and hair are dry. He has a big water bubble in front of him. I was going to say someone could see him, but since we can't see, no one else will be able to.
"There at least we're dry now." He says and looks at me. I nod bringing my legs up to my chest. He starts the car and slowly starts driving. "Can you see anything?" He asks leaning into the windshield.
"Not really." I say looking out.
"I can't drive in this. I'm going to pull over." He says. He starts turning the car. I look out my window and make sure we don't go too far.
"Stop!" I say as we dip a little. "You need to turn a little to the left and then pull forward." I say. He does and then puts the car in park.
"We get the one car that doesn't have heat, of course." I hear him mumble. I stare out my window seeing water everywhere. The sky is black and grey. You can't see anything, but the rain and gloomy sky. We hear thunder and then see the lightning.
"How long do you think it'll last?" I ask and look over at him trying to distract myself and keeping the memories away.
"I don't know. An hour or the whole night." He says. I huff and close my eyes. Just go away. I tell my brain. I open my eyes and rub my arms. I feel cold everywhere. "Here." Sam says. I turn and look at him. He has a small gray blanket and is handing towards me.
"Y-you sure?" I ask.
"You're the one without a sweatshirt." He says. When we changed I just put sweatpants, tank top, and a little cover up on. I didn't think we would be stuck in the storm. I grab the blanket and pull it over myself. A little warmth comes over me. "Glade we have a top for over the food." He says. I laugh a little. "What?" He asks and grins.
"We are in a thunderstorm and you think of the food. It's a little funny." I say. He shrugs his shoulders. We stay quiet and watch the rain. We both haven't talked about me running away and I hope it stays like that.
***
It doesn't stop and it's been a hour already. We are both freezing. "My phone will die in a hour." I hear Sam say. He turned on some music to help distract me, it worked for a little, but not a long time. I just wanted to have some other noise than the rain, but I guess the battery should be saved if we need it for something important.
"You can turn the music off to save battery, just in case we need it." I say. He nods his head and then turns the music off.
"It's already 10:08." He says and looks out the back of the truck. "I still can't see and the rain hasn't lightened up." He says and sounds frustrated.
"I know. I would have thought we could at least see a little." I say and rest my head on the window again. I wrap the blanket around myself tighter. My fingers feel like popsicles and I think I'm shaking a little. Sam turns back around and looks over at me.
"Come here, I have an idea." He says. I look over at him confused. "Please." He says. I scoot over to the middle seat next to him. His arm is warm against mine. He grabs my waist and I sit on top of his lap. I look at him confused, but then he moves his legs were I was sitting. My back is now leaning on the steering wheel. He grabs me again and then I'm laying next to him. We are both on our sides. My back to the seats his to the steering wheel. I unfold getting the blanket untangled from me and pull it over us. BOOM! We both jump a little and then he laughs. "Dang thunder." He says and looks at me. I feel warm everywhere now. My stomach feels like a roller coaster is in it and for some reason when he looks at me I feel even warmer. "Are you warmer?" He asks making me stop thinking about my weird feelings.
"Yeah." I say. He nods his head and closes his eyes. I close my eyes and go to sleep almost instantly.
