Chapter 26: The End?

Your POV

'Run'

In that dire instant the garden Shadow stood was rapidly enshrouded in a savage storm of purple mist, the outside world becoming nothing but a violet abyss. Mephiles had found you.

"Shadow!?"

But your words were eaten and digested by the overwhelming vigorous roar of the un-penetrable shroud.

"Shadow!?"

On instinct your hand lifted back and up to where your Crescent Moon gun was holstered, having been given it back when you first awoke in the mansion, the root reflex to look for it for protection even though it could do very little in this situation.

Despite the panic you were able to recall that you weren't to step out of the mansion, otherwise that would only make the situation astronomically worse. He was calling back but you couldn't auscultate what he was trying to desperately call to you. Leaning closer to the barbaric environment, unaware that you placed a single foot on the cracked concrete just as you made out his words.

"Stay inside!"

But his words came to late. Your eyes only caught onto the glimpse of what appeared to be a indigo shadow like ball, before it collided with your chest sending you hurtling across the grounds! You came to a rapid halt splintering against a moss covered stone bench it crumbled upon your impact!

Coughing from the loss of air you could also taste the metallic liquid of a drizzle of blood in your mouth, the sharp edged shards of rock digging into every limb. Against the howling storm you could hear him stepping towards you, frantic to move you commanded any part of you to move, with only your chest obeying your instructions maneuvering in the upward and downward motion in breath. That orb must have been some form of paralysis spell.

His footsteps came to a pause reaching your side, you being unable to look up to meet his gaze.

"Enough games." he growled.

Even in this moment you thought his comment to be rather ironic, considering he could have taken you any time he wanted since you had been located in the safe house. Your entire life had been a game to him.

"(Y/N)!?" Shadow's stricken voice called over the calamity, yet he sounded miles away.

Mephiles glanced back to about the direction Shadow was, pausing and hesitating to display his power, and now he expected to win, to look back down at you with a sinister glare before taking you away for his own means. Yet he hadn't expected to feel a sharp shard of rock collide with his face!

Stumbling back a couple of paces he glared back to you with a torn muzzle shocked as you stumbled up, purple bloody rock in hand.

"How!?" he bellowed.

You couldn't answer it yourself, but something in how desperate Shadow had sounded, how hurt. You finally knew everything he had been through, loosing his only family, being labeled a traitor, creating his most deadly enemy, blaming himself for this whole ordeal, and now he was more afraid of himself than ever.

Your own trials were hardly anything from trivial, yet you could never compare your life to his tragedies. His dark demure and appearance were more understandable than ever, his heart was that of a regular mortal, and no mortal heart was designed to under go such torment. And at the pain in his voice something inside you fought off the spell, determined to never let anything or anyone hurt him again. And that included you.

Returning Mephiles' glare the paralysis was now being replaced with something much stronger, an electricity powering every cell of your body. Ready to fight.

"Enough! I will have your power!"

Another orb materialised in his palm which he sent hurtling at you, and your body acted faster than you mind your hand reaching out to catch it. It miraculously being smothered with the contact of your palm. 'He only has 50 years left, 50 years and his physical form will disintegrate'. You were currently 18 years of age, which meant he still had 32 years left, but you didn't have that time.

But even he had expressed he was running out of time, so he was most definitely becoming weaker, then in that case. It's time to put an end to this! Thrusting an hand into the air you screeched a spell.

"Verwusten!

Shadow's POV

In an instant the mist parted the grounds falling into a hush, as though the carnage little more then a second previously had never existed let alone occurred. The only evidence of a struggle was that brief scent of her blood which was delivered by a whisper of a breeze. I didn't know how to feel when I could tell it was a small wound from the concentration of the scent.

But I grew panicked when I found the origin of the blood, across the distance of the entire grounds staining a smashed stone bench. Undoubtedly the storm was of Mephiles' doing and he had attacked (Y/N), she must have stepped out of the mansion. And now there was no sign of either, no tracks to follow, meaning either must have used a spell to teleport to goodness knows where.

And I had promised that I would protect her. Baring my fangs I knew, there was only one thing that I could do now.

Your POV

In a bright flash of a white glow the area in which you stood was no longer the ferocious storm, replaced by a deserted and uninhabitable landscape, it appeared endless the ground, non-existent sky being murky blood red essence being the only thing in sight. The air was thick with a rancid smell you had never smelt before, but it burned your insides.

However with you being the one who had teleported you both here, you had to remove your shock and terror at the horrifying place. Mustering your courage you stood up striaght holding that same glare...

"The desolate zone, anything that happens here will not effect reality, you can not leave without me allowing it!"

Once again another spell in your mothers book, talking of zone where one could not escape unless a witch or wizard commanded it. You figured if you keep Mephiles trapped in here for long enough, he could waste away his last years without harming anyone else.

"How annoyingly like your mother you are, a fast learner. But unfortunately, not fast enough."

Before you could question his words your vision started to slightly blur, your limbs growing somewhat numb. You recognised this as the fatigue that took a hold of you after you cast your very first spell, according to Sister Joyce it was only account of the adrenaline which is why you were able to hang on for so long.

Had casting that spell been a grievous mistake?

"You foolish half breed, it is but the effort of a whisper for a witch to master a spell, the skill required is to train the body to endure the strain. Which clearly you were unaware of." he laughed demonically.

How could I be so stupid!? You should have read that stupid spell in more detail!

"And not only that..."

Your eyes darting back to him, your previous glare starting to waver into fear, barely able to remain balanced on your cripples legs. But the danger dramatically increased when the area started to change as if molding and melding into something entirely different, strands of inky red accumulating towards Mephiles.

He was lost in the tangle of strands the entire landscape turning into a black galaxy like cloud, the atmosphere becoming more sinister, your breath catching in your throat at the sudden lack of air. What's happening to him!?

In a blaze of light he revealed himself, and he was far from the same. His form was completely changed, astronomically larger than before, his original silhouette now replaced with a bone like winged structure with a centre body, the skeleton pieces the same blend of colours as his crystal form, a crimson gem at his center.

"What on Mobius are you!?" you screeched terrified.

The area hardly solidified at the apparent transformation over.

"The Desolate zone is indeed a prison for all Unknowns. However I denied such a prison due to a more powerful creature being held here, the creature which was once my power, known as Iblis."

That very name, Iblis, was enough to turn your every fiber into a glacier. For centuries the tale told to scare children to behave, some worlds had the Bogey man, or the monsters under the bed. Iblis was the creature told of in nightmares who devoured innocent and guilty alike, but now, he was hardly a campfire story.

"And now, thanks to you, I am finally restored to my final true form! Solaris!"

What have I done!?

"Which means, I no longer have any need for you!"

An aura encased his gem before it fired a scorching beam, waiting until the last instant you were only able to just dodge it, being remembered of your lacking reactions as you stumbled a commando role. There had to be something you could do!

"Who would have thought you would conspire with my greatest enemy and ultimate creator to bring about my destruction. And now I have regained my power and have the pleasure of wounding him critically."

"I'll never let that happen!"

But your burst of courage was snuffed out as he sent another powerful blast your way taking the form of a violet smoking orb. Your reflexes failed you this time toppling to the ground in a exhausted mess. Clutching a clump of dusty ground in your fist you grimaced at the pain, fighting back tears, refusing to except this was how everyone's struggles would end.

"You are nothing, a worthless creature destined to be shunned by society! And now I take your powers for myself, half breed!"

Catching onto several spikes headed your way you kicked yourself off the ground, but not avoiding one spear tearing your non dominant arm. Screeching in pain he found pleasure in your pain.

"Stop resisting, your time is up!"

This time his attack wounded your leg and he cackled again. He was enjoying this. Gloating of his power, seeing he had the upper hand, making your death last as long as possible. But your were immortal, you would surely heal, but he knew how to kill you. Was this really the end?

His last gloat though, 'time'. That was it! Feeling to your back pocket you were finally allowed a wisp of relief as you felt your Crescent Moon gun, still in your holster. You had refused to withdraw it thinking it wouldn't even dent Mephiles. But it might now be your only hope. It was time to remember the skills you knew, rather than the ones you had yet to learn.

I hope I have it in me for one more spell, you pleaded inwards, barely having the strength to speak anymore.

"Die you half breed!"

Dodging one final time you skidded to a halt in front of him and aimed, he started to laugh at the your final attempt to harm him, but at the ring of the shot there was a moments silence, each holding your breath. And then he began to laugh again when nothing happened.

"You are pathetic!" he laughed knowing you to the ground "such a puny weapon could never effect me!"

Please work, please work, please work!

Feeling a presence over you you knew he was about to deliver the final blow, finally drawing it to a close, and you were too weak to fight back, all energy completely snuffed out and drained. But then, nothing.

Barely able to glance up you saw Solaris frozen, a black dot where the bullet had implanted itself. And there were veins originating from it, poisoning him.

"What have you done!?"

His cries of anguish were hardly audible to you as you crept to your shaking feet, holding your gun to your chest as though a comforter. His form started to disintegrate his power rapidly being taken from him, a bone at a time would fall and turn to ash before all that remained was his main body. He shattered to the floor returning to his natural form, but this time he appeared different.

No longer made of obsidian his body was that of a regular hedgehog moabian, fur, quills and all. His silhouette perfectly imitating Shadow's, his fur grey and dusty turquoise rather than black and crimson. At his reinstated original form the landscape leaked into the same blood red, your not being sure which setting you found more comforting.

You limped over to him as he panted, clutching what remained of his now nonexistent right arm, he glared up at you, only for his eyes to trail down to your gun, which was chipping away in your hand gradually, the metal rusting and oak becoming stained. You could tell he had been able to figure it out.

You had cast a final spell, one that increased the pace of time, and you figured the spell would carry from the gun, into the bullets, and into the target. If all he had was a few years left then all you had needed to was increase the pace of time and he'd be gone forever. He now looked at you completely defeated, as though he expected you to enjoy your new found position of power.

But instead you simple aimed you gun and shot one last time. Ending it all.

You didn't hesitate to deliver the final blow. Unlike him, who would have happily spent hours gloating of the upper hand he had acquired. No, you got it over quickly. Was that it? It had to be, all you figured left now was to wait until you regained enough strength to cast the spell to send you back.

Taking a couple of steps away from Mephiles' body, which was now dust, however there was a certain tightness to your throat. You coughed hoping it was just the dust of the Desolate Zone, but it only got tighter. And then it was as though chains were around your limbs wrapping around, weighing you down and cutting off all oxygen and heat. Collapsing to your knees you hadn't thought it to be possible to feel even weaker than you previously had. What was happening to your body!?

Did you really think I could be killed that easily?

You grew frantic at Mephiles' unwanted voice in your head. He was supposed to be dead. Unable to speak you could barely glance back to the dust, seeing him no longer there. How!? How as he doing this!? Killing you from the inside!?

You foolish half breed, I told you only I knew of a way to kill you.

You were rapidly growing colder by the second, your heart pace slowing down.

That talisman of a cross you held directly to your heart for years allowed me to form a immaterial link with your powers, and now as I die I am draining your powers and taking you with me.

There was the gloating again.

Once you had served your purpose I would have drained both your and your off springs powers, but without a material form I am now unable to do that. This is my final victory, congratulations on murdering us both.

Feeling his voice leave your mind you fell from your knees and onto your back a weak hand above your heart, feeling it growing weaker and slower with every pulse. As you lay there, motionless your life gradually seeping out of you, you couldn't even cry at the thought you had ended up where you had started. Alone.

No mother, no father, no Cosmo. And now you didn't even have Shadow by your side.

And you had said you didn't want to hurt him.

It's cold, it's so so cold....

Third person's POV

As (Y/N) lay there fear consumed her mind, fearing death and the unknown, fearing leaving the one she loved and those who had fought for her.

But she was too weak to notice a new presence in the Desolate zone. They gave off a white heaven like aura, and (Y/N) only caught onto the distant sound of there footsteps when they were next to her.

She tried to shuffle or move away from her, despite her appearance not holding any threat. After all, she was only a child. Through her blurred vision (Y/N) could just make out that the figure next to her had blonde hair tied back with a black rag of cloth, her medieval dress a lighter shade of blue, a necklace bearing a bright gem on a silver chain. She bent down to the (A/T)'s height with a kind smile, one that had an instant calming effect.

"Do not fear, I am not going to hurt you. I am merely going to send you back to where you belong, back with Shadow."

(Y/N) tried and failed to ask the many questions concerning her sudden presence.

"You do not belong here, no creature does, it is the land between life and death, hence why I am able to briefly travel here. So using my magic I will send you back."

The young girl smiled when (Y/N) seemed to silently except her help. Smiling back she held out her hand illuminating a white orb that grew brighter until it chased away the horrid zone, until the point it completely blinded (Y/N). And as she felt herself returning she heard the child say one last thing.

"Take care of him for me, where I no longer cannot."

And as she left the desolate zone behind she finally realised. That young girl had been Maria.

Your POV

"(Y/N)?"

It was warm.

"(Y/N)!?"

You could hear his voice, encouraging you to open your eyes. Somehow you had regained some energy, enough to look up at him and give a whisper of smile. He was here. But where had that girl, Maria, gone?

But glancing past him you saw it was still night and you were back in the garden, there were stars but no moon. It was a new moon. However panic soon took a hold of your mind as the cold seeped in again, being reminded that you were dying.

"(Y/N), what happened to you!? What's wrong!?" Shadow asked frantically holding you close as you lay on the ground.

Preparing your throat you forced yourself to utter one weak word.

"Dying..."

He held you closer mumbling 'no' continuously.

"There was to be something I can do." he begged.

Even though you couldn't see much you could have sworn you saw something glistening at the brims of his eyes. But there wasn't, there wasn't anything he could do. With numbness taking over your body you were vaguely aware of feeling one of his arms leaving you, before a distant word.

"I'm sorry."

Sorry for what? There is nothing you have to be sorry fo-

And then you smelt it. An intoxicating smell taking over every sense. Out of nowhere you felt a burst of lust burning your insides. Locating the scent instantly you captured him in your arms desperate for that smell, for that warmth. Your vision still impaired you only saw a bright red liquid crystal clear, and your lips meeting flesh you happily drank letting a new found warmth course through you.

You didn't care for the arms wrapped around you comforting and protectively, nor when they fell from you, and nor when the source of the warmth collapsed to the ground. All you wanted was that warmth and luscious liquid.

And the last thing you were able to hear as you slipped away content, was your heart beat resuming its rhythmic beat.

"I love you (Y/N)."

Would you guys like me to write a book that has writing tips for just books in general and X reader books specially as well? As I've been thinking about it for a while.
