Chapter 6
Dean decided to text Castiel from the hospital. It was still crazy how he worked on his brother and helped him out. Dean couldn't believe that the man he'd sat next to at the bus stop was such a big part in his an his brother's life.
'Hey Cas it's me Dean. DW'
Dean waited a few minutes with his phone in between his folded hands as he watched his brother sleeping in the hospital bed. But that's all he had to wait because he got a response from the other man almost immediately.
'Hello Dean. I was wondering if you were actually going to text me. CN'
'Of course I was going to. I said I would didn't I? DW'
'Yes but people don't often text me. CN'
'That's their loss. DW'

"Sam the doctor said you had to stay at the hospital. You're getting worse and worse."
Dean said sternly to his brother, with concern lacing his voice.
"Dean please there's so much I still want to do." Sam whined before letting out a violent cough that had been a new development only a few days ago.
"What do you want to do Sam?"
Dean sighed looking at his brother with almost pleading eyes.
"I really wanted to go to college and..and I still haven't told my friend Jessica that I love her yet."
Dean frowned running a hand through his hair. "You go to the hospital and I promise you that I'll make those things happen."
Dean didn't know how he'd do it but Sam knew that when his big brother said he was going to do something, he was going to do it. Sam nodded and went to his room to gather a bag for the hospital.

'Thats their loss. DW'
Castiel smiled at the screen of his phone. This man he had just met, well he thought he had just met, was so nice and sweet and good looking..
Castiel shrugged. He had a right to think someone was both nice and good looking without falling for them right? He wasn't desperate or anything.
'Thank you Dean. CN'
'Youre welcome Cas. I only say what I mean. Now about that dinner I wanted to take you to, when did you want to go? DW'
'Any day is good for me. I get off of work at three every day. CN'
'Okay I get off at five usually, sometimes cases last longer but I can plan something. DW'
'That sounds good. I'm free whenever you are. CN'
'How about Friday at six? DW'
'Perfect. CN'
'Its a date. See you then. DW'
Castiel paused looking at his phone screen. A date? He thought that it was just a friendly dinner to say thank you. Not that Castiel would have minded it being a date, not at all. Only last time he went on a date it didn't end too well.
'A date? CN'
Castiel didn't get a response right away. He was left in agonizing suspense of the other man'a reply which took a long time before it was received.
'Oh I thought I made it clear. I'm sorry I didn't mean to.. It can be just a friend thing. Sorry I assumed you just understood my weird ways. DW'
Castiel's heart beat quickened and he felt like a teenager again when the guy he liked had accepted his invitation to prom. He typed on his phone as quick as his clumsy thumbs would allow, but he didn't even realize.
'No that's okay. I was just confirming that that is what you actually meant. CN'
'Oh okay great! See you tomorrow ;) DW'
Castiel smiled and flopped down on his mattress with a slight bounce.
'Okay see you tomorrow :) CN'

Castiel stood there in his oversized trench coat that he had gotten when he was a freshman. Now he was a senior and was standing in the most nerve racking situation ever. The guy he liked was one of the coolest guys in the senior grade and Castiel couldn't believe he was doing this.
Andrew was a popular guy and wouldn't even look at Castiel and yet when Castiel had found out that he was bisexual and didn't have anyone to go to prom with yet, not that he hadn't been asked, Castiel jumped at the chance to ask him and now here he was.
He played his hands as he looked up at the taller boy. It was even more nerve racking because Andrew's best friend was standing right next to him. Dan, Don, Dean? Something like that. Only he wasn't even looking at him, like Castiel didn't even exist. Andrew on the other hand was staring intently at the stuttering Castiel as he rambled on.
"..so I was wondering.. If you didn't have anyone else to go to prom with.. If you wanted to go with me?" Castiel asked nervously looking up at him. Andrew nodded and shrugged.
"Sure Cas. Pick you up at your place." He said and smiled a little before walking away with his friend.
Castiel just stood there in shock for a few minutes before he smiled brightly.
~~
Castiel smiled brightly and closed his eyes actually anticipating tomorrow and maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't even need to bring a book.
