~

Everyone was telling Baekhyun to pass the ball and frankly, Baekhyun did not want to.

"Baekhyun! Pass the ball!" They yelled and Baekhyun grits his teeth.

He saw Chanyeol staring at him and Baekhyun finally looked back. The moment he looked into Chanyeol's eyes, it was as if the fire inside of him was rekindled and he suddenly felt angrier.

Chanyeol was looking at Baekhyun like Baekhyun didn't know what he was doing when in fact, Baekhyun knew exactly what he was doing.

It was supposed to be not passing to Chanyeol, but this ruined the whole plan. At that moment, all the words Chanyeol said about him replayed in his mind, about how Baekhyun was annoying and clingy and dumb and everything bad.

"You want me to pass it?" Baekhyun asked, glaring at Chanyeol. "Fine!"

Baekhyun pulled his arms over and behind his head with the ball in his hands, and he flung it at Chanyeol as hard as he could, unconsciously aiming at his head.

The ball seemed as if it was in slow-mo as it went dead straight to its target, soaring through the air before it connected with Chanyeol's face. The giant with lanky limbs fell backwards, landing on the ground with a not-so-quiet-or-graceful thump.

Everything went silent in the gym, and Baekhyun could feel half of the people's gaze on him while the other half was staring at the figure on the ground.

People began gasping and yelling, and when Baekhyun saw Chanyeol holding his face in his hands, he really realised what he had done.

He just hurt Chanyeol, and on purpose too.

Baekhyun's mind now flashed back to the thing Chanyeol told him a mere week ago, about how Baekhyun would never hurt a fly because he was Winnie The Pooh and about how Baekhyun was the nicest person he's ever met.

He'll never think like that about you ever again. His thoughts were shooting themselves into Baekhyun's heart and he suddenly felt as if the whole world was placed right onto him. He was being crushed, his body and his feelings altogether.

The sudden deep ache in his heart only intensified as the seconds ticked by, and Baekhyun suddenly couldn't stand being in the gym.

The small basketball player felt the guilt pool in his stomach when he saw the blood on Chanyeol's hands.

Everyone on the court rushed to Chanyeol's aid, even BTS who was on the opposite side... Everyone but Baekhyun.

He was frozen in place, he couldn't move one bit even if his brain was screaming at him to go help Chanyeol. Every single cell was telling Baekhyun to go, just go and be by Chanyeol.

Yet, his body didn't listen to him and instead, he bolted out of the gym into the cold January temperature. It was snowing outside, and everything was covered in a thin layer of fluffy whiteness that was all too bright for Baekhyun who seemed like a broken lightbulb.

He crouched down and leaned against the wall as he hugged his legs, biting his lip hard. The cold couldn't get to him because at the moment he had an air of guilt and sadness around him that was preventing him from feeling anything else.

Baekhyun didn't know what was going through his mind when he threw the ball in Chanyeol's face. He was acting so stupid.

Baekhyun wondered how he had become like this, how he'd hurt someone that he cared about more and more each day.

Yes, he knew that he was jealous, jealous of Chanyeol and Dara.

Yes, he knew that what he felt for Chanyeol would never be returned to him, but everything was crippling down on Baekhyun faster than the cold wind.

Everything just hurt.

Baekhyun closed his eyes and buried his face in his arms and knees, letting everything out in the only form he could manage at the moment.

What's wrong with me?

He didn't scream, he didn't hit things, and he didn't blame anyone else. Instead, his body just slightly shook—from the cold or from his feelings—as he let little drops of nothing fall out of his eyes.

It astonished Baekhyun, how no one really cared if it rained, or if the ocean's sea level was dropping... So why was it so important when the same thing came out of human's eyes?

All humans have feelings and while living life, everyone experiences more than 100 of those feelings, so why does it matter so much when someone is sad?

Why does being unhappy hurt so much? Why does being broken have to hurt so much?

It was all Baekhyun could think about as he began to put up his own walls, shutting everything out from him.

Until he heard a familiar voice calling for him.

"Baekhyun." The voice was far away but stern, as if it knew it had effects on him.

Baekhyun opened his puffy eyes and lifted his head, looking into another pair of eyes that were meters and meters away from him. He was standing with his parents who were glaring holes into Baekhyun, probably imagining cooking him up and serving him out on a silver platter—or even a scrawny plastic one.

Of course, he's calling you, he hates you right now. You shouldn't be surprised if he beats you up.

It looked ridiculous. He looked ridiculous. Chanyeol was out in the winter times with only his basketball jersey and his shorts, plus he was holding a white towel to his nose.

So Baekhyun wondered what he himself looked like at the moment, crying like a baby in his basketball clothes.

The two stayed there for a minute, both as stupid as the other and completely oblivious to the different people there.

Baekhyun expected Chanyeol to jeer at him, insult him, blame everything on him, but instead... The words he said were just enough to break down whatever walls Baekhyun had built.

"Get back into the game. My team needs you."

The sound of the words were devoid of emotion and completely cold, just what Baekhyun was supposed to receive. But the meaning of the words were completely different and they set a fire inside of Baekhyun's heart.

Baekhyun didn't deserve this at all, after what he just did.

But Chanyeol was giving it to him, and with the way Chanyeol was looking at him, how could he say no?

Chanyeol walked away and his parents gave Baekhyun one more sour look before following Chanyeol quickly.

Even though his parents probably hated Baekhyun, Baekhyun couldn't care less.

He knew Chanyeol was right.

Why was Baekhyun crying when they were just about to lose a basketball game all because of his selfish actions? Baekhyun couldn't just let it drop this way. He couldn't let all his team's efforts go to waste just because he felt something small like jealousy and hatred.

The midget gave Chanyeol's back one more look before he stood up and ran back into the gym, brushing off any snow he had on himself and drying his shoes.

The game had already begun again and when Baekhyun came in, he noticed that BTS had gotten two more points since Chanyeol got injured. Baekhyun dropped down onto the bench and no one said anything, letting the area around them stay in silence. Baekhyun doubted himself for a second before he looked around and saw everyone's expressions. That was when Baekhyun knew that they couldn't let this happen

He was going to win this, for the team, for Chanyeol, and for himself. He couldn't let the loss of the captain fail everything else.

Subs were called and Baekhyun stood up immediately, going into the middle with strong strides. The ball was passed to Baekhyun and he held it in his hands before he began bouncing it. The whistle blew and Baekhyun let the noise of the ball drown out everything else. He let it drown out the glares of the people in the crowd, the nervous beating of his heart and the thoughts attempting to bring him down.

He poured every single inch of his concentration into basketball because he needed this, everyone on his team needed this.

Baekhyun checked the clock and realized he had only five seconds left to pass half court or he'd have to give it to the other team. Baekhyun closed his eyes and counted down in his head.

One,

two,

again, everyone was shouting at him.

Baekhyun shot all of that out, though, and took in a deep breath.

He opened his eyes and was greeted by the scene he didn't think he'd ever want to forget. His gaze locked with Jin's and Baekhyun smirked at him. The younger looked at him confused for a second before Baekhyun used one hand to push the ball high into the air behind Jin. Baekhyun ran as fast as he could, going past Jin and getting the ball before he began running again. No one even got a breather as he spun his body and dodged past Taehyung who tried to swipe at the basketball. The point happened so fast and everyone was rendered speechless at Baekhyun's drive.

It was silent for a second time that game, but this time, it was for a good reason.

Most of the crowd cheered while others began theories on how Baekhyun hurt Chanyeol to take his fame.

But again, Baekhyun didn't care whatsoever, all he cared about was winning this.

His teammates smiled at him and Baekhyun grinned.

Baekhyun was sure of it now, that even if everyone was feeling bad, even if the captain wasn't there, they had to win this to advance to the semi-finals and reach what's always been sought-after.

After all, this was basketball. And other than Chanyeol, Baekhyun loved it the most.
