Chapter 14

Sam P.O.V

Always remember to care for the people around you, and to be there for those who you cherish. Because you never know just when your, or maybe even their last day on earth will be.

Now, I'm not getting all deep as if someone has died on me or anything. That's not it... But it's just... Okay, it happened when I got home from school the next day.

The day had went pretty smoothly, considering what had happened the day before. I didn't really get much of a chance to socialize with Taylor, but I still tried to make sure that she knew I was still her friend. I hope she got that.

Anyway, I got home and... It was weird. My mom, she was... Acting really strange. She was tired, and not like her usual cheery self where she asked me how my day had went, or if I wanted to eat. No, that usual day to day thing didn't happen, and it freaked me out because it was so out of the ordinary.

But here's where it got weirder.

I went downstairs later that day to find her moping around in the kitchen. I assumed she must have just had a difficult day or something, and I told her to go to bed.

When she turned around and saw me, she seemed really startled for a good 10 seconds, before her face relaxed and she realized it was me. And that really freaked me out.

"O-Oh, hey... Sam. I forgot you were home." She sighed. I rose an eyebrow at her.

"Yeah... You seem tired today, mom. Why don't you go rest or something?" I wondered, as I went towards the fridge and took a can of cola out the fridge. She just shook her head, objecting to the idea.

"Mom, you're clearly exhausted, if you've had a long day! You need to--!"

"I'm fine, Sam!" She argued, slightly raising her voice to me. I flinched, never hearing her really yell all that much. I saw her face relax, and she just shook her head again.

"Why don't you go to bed, eh?" She said. So, without another word I left the room and ran upstairs feeling a little shook up. My mom was acting so strange. Much more tired than she usually was.

And that worried me because I remember the same thing before my grandmother passed away. You see, she got Alzheimer's before she died and it was a very difficult time. Especially for my mother, because a lot of the times when we went to visit her in her few last months around, she didn't remember me or my mom and I felt awful for her. She cried for weeks on end. Me, I recovered from the loss fairly quickly, as I had not known my nan all that much. But it was still life changing.

And turns out, it actually runs in my mother's side of the family. Which is why this day was just so alarming for me, and why it worried me beyond belief. My mother was only climbing up to her late 30's. I couldn't imagine how difficult her life would become if she had forgotten the basic things of where the shops were, or how to get back home. Or who people even were. What if she forgot me?

But for all I knew, it could have just been me imagining it, and my mother could just be normally the way she is for whatever reason.

The next day of school, I just has to try and shake it off, thinking nothing of it as I headed to my Maths class. Today in class we're learning about fractions and decimals, and I just tried my hardest to focus on nothing but that.

English was next. And it turns out, Mackenzie was in my English class. Go figure.

And here's where it gets worse! My teacher gave us an assigned seating plan, and I was forced to sit next to her, even though I utterly hated her guts. Hopefully, she was just going to keep her trap shut and not bother me. I was the one who gave her a broken nose after all...

Taylor P.O.V

Break time... I wonder if Sam is in the cafeteria...

It seemed like she was being really true to her word when she said that she still wanted to be my friend. We hadn't really spoken all that much yesterday, but when we did, I knew she meant well.

Just one problem.

I couldn't see her anywhere in the cafeteria. Frowning, I looked everywhere for her, but couldn't see her familiar jet black hair anywhere. Though, I did spot Laura, Beth and Jack sitting together at a table. Maybe they knew where she was.

"Hey guys..." I muttered, getting their attention.

"Oh, hey Taylor! You alright?" Jack said. I nodded.

"Y-Yeah... I was just wondering if you guys knew where Sam is. I thought she'd be hanging out with you guys."

"I don't know." Laura frowned. "I mean, in English she left half way through the lesson for some reason. Not sure why though."

"Oh... Okay, thanks anyway..." I replied, leaving their table, biting my bottom lip feeling anxious. I wonder where she went...

Taking out my phone, I dialed Sam's number, in hope for her to answer. However, the moment I called her and put the phone to my ear, it went straight to voicemail. Dammit, her phone was turned off...

"Where are you, Sam...?"
