Chapter 25

Sam P.O.V

It was strange, not having the daily grind of school in my usual schedule these past few days, due to my mother's illness. It wasn't a positive thing. Now, I know that might have sounded strange, the fact that I wasn't psyched to not have to go to school for the past week (considering I had to speak to my father, and he actually called in for me, saying dealing with school right now would have been way too stressful with the fresh wound and all). But I hated not seeing my girlfriend everyday. I hated not being able to be at her side at school every day. For all I knew, even when I had my own issues to deal with, I was worrying how things were going for her, and she might of been getting bullied and picked on by that bitch McKenzie. However, my worries were always dispelled each day, because Taylor made time to talk to me on the phone whenever she could. She'd tell me about what I missed, we'd actually laugh together until the moment we were in tears, and then it'd fall comfortably silent.

I know it probably sounded sad, that we started talking about how much we missed seeing each other, as it had only been a week. It wasn't like I had gone off on some trip for a month and hadn't been able to see her. We had just become so accustomed to see each other every day, that it was almost like we were more important to each other than the oxygen we breathed. Sometimes these past few nights, when I lay awake crying, I felt like that was true. Taylor was an extremely important girl to me, and I was glad that I didn't need to suffer alone. Funny, isn't it? How before, I was always the strong girl, the one who acted as if she didn't have a problem in the world. Strange how it is, how we take things for granted when we don't really have many problems. Then the moment we feel like our whole world is caving in around us, we crumble to bits, like tiny specks of dust.

Anyway, I had enough of just laying around in my dark bedroom eating nothing but emotional comfort foods for the past week. I felt like I needed to get out of the house, otherwise all I was going to do was continue thinking about my sick mom and drive myself insane. All I wanted to do was see her again, but I was terrified that I would have a repeat of what happened before: that she would forget about me again, and act as if I was a total stranger, causing her to scream bloody murder as if I had pulled out a knife right there in her room. Now, don't get me wrong, I wanted to see her again. Right now, however, was just not the time, I hadn't had enough time to heal from the traumatising event that had happened and the news that had befallen my sensitive ears. For today, I just wanted to spend time with Taylor. I wanted her to make me feel like myself again, like life really wasn't as awful as I was starting to feel like it was.

That was one of the things that I loved about our relationship. We were able to weigh each other out. We were able to be there for one another, it wasn't always about one person or the other. Not that I would have minded always being there for Tay, she was one of the best things to un-expectantly happen to me in a very long time, and I would have sat at her side hugging her all night as she was sobbing if I had to. I know she would do the same for me.

As a week had passed and it was a Saturday, I had arranged to meet with my girlfriend at the park - the same park that had a bit of a bittersweet memory to it. I remembered it as being the day me and Taylor properly first started getting to know each other, and I made her upset and caused her to cry by accident. I'd never forget the look on her face when she ran away, it always shattered my heart in two when I remembered how much she was hurting back then. But she had improved a lot, she was getting better.

Pulling the edges of my lips into a smile was hard to resist the moment I had stumbled upon the park and saw Taylor waiting for me upon the familiar bench that sat just outside of the park gate. When she saw me, she had smiled back and that only caused me to feel all warm and fuzzy inside. As if her presence alone sent a major sugar rush right through my veins. It was like around her for a couple of hours, I'd be able to forget about my troubles.

We sat upon the swings for awhile, going back to talking about school. Thankfully, Taylor was telling me that she hadn't had to deal with much shit from McKenzie as of lately, even while I'd been gone. There had been things here and there that had happened, but it was nothing compared to the times where McKenzie would get her terrible minions to beat Taylor up for her. That damn bimbo was the worst, and I was looking forward to the day we'd all leave highschool so we'd never have to see her again.

After swinging on the swings for a bit, me and Tay just decided to walk hand in hand, not caring about the side glances (and even words of malice) we earned from some random strangers. (Mostly consisting of immature, closed minded teenagers). By the park, there was this large field, where people mostly got their dogs to play and run around in, while small children went to play games of football and racing. Near the back of the field, sat this large tree. "This could be a nice hang out spot." Taylor had suggested to me, which caused me to nod in agreement. It was quite out of the way of everyone, so we could always talk about whatever we wanted without getting any comments from anyone who felt the need to judge us.

"I'm still really sorry about your mom, Sam..." Taylor said after a moment of silence, when we have both gone to sit under the tree, our backs resting against the stump. Simply, I shrugged, picking at small blades of grass between my knees, as I wasn't really sure what to say.

"You don't need to apologise, Tay." I sighed with a weak smile. "Sometimes... Sometimes these things happen... It happened to my grandmother on my mom's side, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised that it happened to my mom... It'll probably happen to me one day too." I whispered, feeling utter fear when I spoke those words. I didn't hear anything apart from the small rustle of grass, almost like something was moving.

Before I could make heads or tails of what was happening, I felt a warm hand upon my right cheek, which pulled me to face towards the girl sitting beside me, and without even speaking a word, she pulled me in for a soft, affectionate kiss. I didn't even question the sudden action of love, I just closed my eyes as they began to water, a single teardrop managing to slip through the crack between my top and bottom eyelid. Our lips slowly moved in unison with one another in a caring manor, almost like they were dancing with one another, doing a slow ballet.

Eventually, Taylor pulled away, still staring into my eyes with a sad smile. "Please don't say things like that." She finally spoke, breaking the silence, and my slight shock over the kiss which made my heart flutter. "You don't know that. You don't know that just because it happened to them, it'll definitely happen to you. Don't jump to conclusions. And even if it does happen, if we're a married couple in the future, I'll stay at your side and won't leave you for a single thing. I love you, you've taught me a lot. You've made me feel like what it's like to be alive again. Without you, I'd be no one... I've relied so much on you... I'd never want you to feel like you couldn't rely on me too." She spoke. I blinked at her choice of words.

"You... Think about us being married when we're older?" I questioned, which caused Taylor to start to madly blush with embarrassment. I couldn't help but smile when she started to blab on about how she was only rambling, and about how she said too much. Though, I wasn't disgusted by what she said, and I only found it adorable. Because I'd like to think that this relationship with Taylor would last, that we'd be together forever. So, shutting up her worries, I pulled her in for yet another kiss, and we remained like that, resting in each others arms under the tree as we allowed our own lips to do the talking.
