Chapter Eleven
Fae held onto Dyku's back as she slowly lowered herself in a landing. The journey took hours that felt like forever to the shiny Eevee, but they were finally in an area Eon considered safe enough away from the Luxray.
Come on! Come on! She thought as she gritted her teeth. This flight was a madhouse to get through. Dyku thought doing loop de loops was a good idea. It wasn't.
The day had gone by much faster than Fae would have liked. They were in a clearing full of traveling Pokémon and Pokémon who could fly. There was a female green Rowlet who greeted others as they came by her. She was offering to fly them wherever they wanted, but no one was taking it. She seemed really frustrated at this.
"Does no one realize what a good flyer I am?!" She demanded in anger. A chuckle was given for an answer. Obviously no one took her seriously as a flyer. The female shiny flapped her wings in such annoyance as she ruffled her feathers and tried settling down.
"Ugh. No one around here appreciates me! I get little money, while all the big stupid assholes get everything! Why can't I be as good as you?!" The shiny screamed. The chuckles settled down. "Maybe it's because you're not really a big Pokemon. Tiny nuggets like you don't fit here out in the flying world. You can't carry more than a Weedle at a time. Leave the carrying to the big strong adults, kid." A Skyarmory responded with a smirk on his face. He then winked at a female Skyarmory nearby who just giggled.
The younger green Rowlet grumbles in frustration. "You morons have no idea what I went through just to get this job. I barely earn anything, and I'm treated poorly by everyone else. When is it my time to shine?!" The Rowlet exclaimed in anguish, knocking over a nearby store shelf.
The shopkeeper shouted at the Rowlet in anger. "Glimmend! What the fuck?! Oh, great! Now I have clean up your mess because you can't control your stupid anger! I'm reporting this to your supervisor. This cannot keep going on!"
A furious Barbaracle started to clean up the store as a couple workers inside tried to shrink away. Their eyes told Fae that they were there for things other than to clean up. It was a weird thing. Usually the workers cleaned up the shop.
The Rowlet screeched loudly in surprise, flapping her wings. "No, no, no, no, no! Don't do that!" she unprofessionally cawed as she frantically flew over to the shopkeeper. "I'm sorry! I'm just mad as it—" she began before the Barbaracle smacked her in the face with a Fury Cutter. "No!" He exclaimed at her. "I will not let you get away with such shit again! I will have your superior fire you because of your uncompetetence and inability to control yourself. Women should never have been allowed to work!" He screamed, as the shiny Rowlet screamed, holding her bleeding face in horror.
Her face was pretty messed up, however, it seemed it wasn't the hardest this Barbaracle could cut her as her cut wasn't deep. The humiliation, however, was deeper than any cut from him she could ever receive. The shiny Rowlet called Glimmend growled lowly.
What is happening? Fae wondered as she and her friends watched the scene. "That's unfortunate. Did you guys see that?" Neri asked them. Obviously everyone saw it. Eon dipped his head. "It's unfortunate to see women treated that poorly. I hope she doesn't get fired, however I know the owner of the Flying Express. He's kind of sexist." The Umbreon responded, his voice in a whisper within his scarf.
Fae's eyes widened in horror. So this was what the real world was, huh? It was still pretty bad. What's so good about this world? A green Rowlet full of promise isn't given the chance she deserves. She said her name was Glimmend? Who names their kid something that odd?
Fae shook her head. They needed to move on—to find where they were going was the main priority. She wanted to help the younger Rowlet, but they had no time. She felt her brother grab her paw and start pulling her. He was waving good bye to Dyku and Nigel. Fae followed his example as the five Pokémon raced away.
Fae wasn't so sure if continuing was a good idea. Shouldn't they have stopped to help that Rowlet? Should she say something? No, I'm just being a worrywart. That Rowlet is probably fine. She padded alongside her brother as he led them somewhere. He weaved around the path they were on. It was created for Pokémon.
"So, where are we going?" She asked the Umbreon as his scarf hid his face. "We are going to the Starter Squad. You two remember? I showed you the skilled group earlier." The scarved Umbreon notes, turning towards Neri and her friends.
Neri gasped. "Is this the place where we witnessed that really cool Primarina saving the day?" Mauve asked. "Oh, Pip? Heh, yeah. He was really good. He's been having troubles lately, but I'm sure he'll be happy to see me."
It was quiet for a bit. Fae then realized she had no idea what a Starter Squad was. From the way that Eon mentioned a Primarina she guessed it was filled with those Pokémon she's heard about given to humans as their beginning Pokémon as they started out on their adventure. Which makes me wonder why they allow mere children out of the house at the age of like eight. It's such a crazy thing. I haven't been out of the house, or at least this far since I was younger. Was I ten or older? I forgot.
"What does this Starter Squad do?" She asked her brother. He mentioned saving the day, but how do they save the day? Could that have been her if she asked them to stop and help that Rowlet?
She felt so guilty about that. Watching and not doing anything? Who would do such a thing?
"They're a group of Pokémon who rescue and help others as well as fighting bad Pokémon in order to keep peace. They have recently rescued Arceus of all Pokémon from a group of baddies." Eon explained.
A group of baddies? Arceus?! Fae gasped. She had heard stories of this glorious bull-like deity. They had been the one to create the universe and everyone inside it. How could such a Pokémon need rescuing from some small bad guys? It was impossible! Arceus was way too powerful to be defeated by just any old Pokémon.
"So they rescued this Arceus from trouble?" Fae asked him. Eon smiled, almost like clockwork. "Not without someone's help." He explained. Someone's help? Who's help would they need to defeat such villains? Eon spoke highly of them, so they must be good.
"Who helped them, Eon?" She wondered, begging him to continue with baby-doll eyes. Eon chuckled. "I helped them with the help of some unlikely allies we saved Arceus." He informed her
He then yipped, "I'm hoping you can meet them. I'm like an honorary member of the Squad!" He puffed out his chest as he bragged, closing his eyes briefly.
Fae rolled her eyes at her brother's silly bragging. "I'm sure you are." She replied. She wasn't sure about this, however. She's heard of this squad before. It had failed time and time again. It didn't really treat some big missions like that one time Arceus almost fell and the Infernape had to be destroyed by two kids. It was just curious to Fae how it lasted this long.
"But why does that matter? Why should we go to the Starter Squad to train? Haven't they been not nearly as good as they claim to be?" She questioned, making her brother's eyes widened. He seemed frustrated for a bit. He then sighed. "They're better than you think, sis. All those things told to you have been lies."
"..." Fae stiffened. Lied. She had been lied to. This Starter Squad hasn't failed in some missions? But why put faith in such a business anyways? They were all corrupt anyways. Her mother told her never to trust the police or anything like it, and she believed her. These Pokémon would never look out for strangers they didn't know anyways.
Fae and the others walked into a forest. How much farther to this Fake Squad are we? She wondered. She really didn't want to go there. She didn't trust them. She was sure she couldn't trust them.
It was getting dark outside, and the moon was out. The forest was creepy at night. "Eon, maybe we should stop. I've heard of a really creepy Pokémon roaming the forest at night with red eyes. Maybe we should stop?" Mauve suggests with a shiver.
"Yeah. We should. We should avoid any trouble at all costs. That cave over there looks good! I'll go check it out and let you know if the coast is clear."
Fae got an uneasy feeling as the male padded into the cave casually and fearlessly. Fae glanced at the ground. It's nothing. He'll come out. Fae shivered. I hope.
