Chapter Thirty-Six
"I would like to thank you personally for coming to rescue us, despite what we did to your village. I hope Corvus will be punished appropriately." The sickly green Braixen remarked as he spun around to smile at them with his paws behind his back. His stick was in his tail.
Eon lifted a finger. "About that," the midnight Pokémon began nervously. It was a farfetched idea to begin with.
"Corvus wasn't exactly in the right state of mine." Eon continued.
"What do you mean by that scarfed-Eeveelution?" The green Braixen wondered with a slight frown. "Was it the doing of one of his allies this whole time?"
Eon nodded.
The green Braixen nodded in understanding. "Ah I see. Gothita are known to have the move Hypnosis. If only used once it puts an opponent to sleep, but used more than once..." the green Braixen trailed off shivering.
"Anyways, I would like to official welcome you guys into this village. If there is anything we can ever do to repay you, let us know."
The green Braixen bowed. His eyes lifted up slightly to gaze at them.
"Oh, no. Nothing is needed. We're just glad to assist." Eon dismissed with a smile, flicking his paw.
"How noble of you." The green Braixen responded. "However, I can see that is not the case. What do you want?" The Braixen barked.
His body was straightened and he stared expectantly at the group. Was it that obvious they wanted them to make peace? Though, they would hav e gladly helped either way. By helping the Fennekin Tribe, they were also helping the Eevee tribe a little by helping them make amends—or at least that's what Fae prayed would happen.
Nobody spoke for a minute until Neri spoke up.
She cleared her throat. "Ahem. Yes actually."
"Lay it on me."
"Well, it's more difficult than just a simple favor. You see—it's hard to ask this of you, but we would really like it if you made amends and became friends with the Eevee tribe. At least, stopped the war you have going on with them. Please." Neri begged, though the way she worded it sounded awkward.
The green Braixen froze in place for a moment. He was unable to respond. He found the ground very appealing.
"..."
"Mr. Braixen?" Neri questions, reaching out a paw towards the shiny Jolteon-colored middle stage. The Braixen groaned slightly, seizing hold of his stick.
He smacked Neri with the stick. Neri let out a slight wail, hoping backwards on three of her paws, but regained her footing easily as the spin softened. "Preposterous! I can't do that! It's not under my power this can happen! Only the elder Delphoxes can accept this ridiculous request! We've been at war with them for years on end!"
Fae's eyes widened. They've been at war for years? Was that even possible?
She could understand if the green Braixen was unable to help, but hearing they've been at war for years on end? Maybe these Pokémon were as evil as the Eevee Village portrayed.
But...even so, there must be reason. Fae was willing it. They couldn't just attack Eevee after Eevee—Fennekin after Fennekin—all for nothing. So if there was a reason, what could it be?
It wasn't really Fae's business, so she didn't pry. After all, it was just a thought.
"Couldn't you just speak to your leaders, then? Ask them what they think. It may sound preposterous to you, but maybe it's a better way. Instead of hating each other and fighting how about you actually talk to one another and try to be understanding?" Fergus popped in, obviously confused on why it couldn't be so simple.
"..."
The green Braixen was silent as he stared at Fergus.
"Espeon," he finally began. Fergus lifted his head a bit, listening. "The leaders are very adamant about fighting the Eevee and their evolutions from that group you reside in. Do you know why? I'm sure they wouldn't tell you or a soul the real reason why we fight. Sure we fight without mercy on each other, but that's for a reason. Do you pray I tell you?"
The green Braixen stared at them with steely eyes.
Fae nodded. "Why are you in a war with the Eevee and their tribe in the first place, oh wise green Braixen?" Fae asked.
The green Braixen stared at her only blinking before beginning his grim tale.
"Long ago, our Eevee and Fennekin Tribes used to be the bestest of friends. We met on day one. We were built up in the same day. Friend Eevee and friend Fennekin. But during the next few years our friend Eevee became selfish, bitter, and cruel. Deciding that since their group was more popular and had more recruits, they decided to try their fate." The Green Braixen began before he was interrupted.
"Try their fate at what?" Fergus asked with a slight bounce. His wheels moved off in a direction, and he fell down onto his belly.
The green Braixen sighed: "If you would listen I was just getting to that."
"Anywho," he continued. "The Eevee tribe tried their lucky and fate. They tried to forcefully take the land the Fennekin tribe had rightfully marked as their own."
Neri and Eon gasped. "How horrible!" Neri cried. The green Braixen only nodded his head and responded, "Indeed," before his tale was continued.
"They hid within the shadows of the night like the true cowards they are. The Fennekin tribe was overwhelmed. Many great Eevee and Fennekin members died that day. Because of greed, Eevee and Fennekin both separated. The two leaders then decided that they were no longer friends. Friends don't ambush each other like the Eevee tribe did."
"The Fennekin tribe gave the Eevee tribe their chance. They gave them their chance to apologize, to make it up to the Fennekin Tribe, and were asked to give up some food as compensation. However, the Eevee tribe was hostile. They decided they didn't need to apologize. Instead, they murdered our dear Fennekin leader with malice. And that's why we're still at war. They never apologized for anything." The green Braixen informed with a small tear in his eyes.
Fae couldn't tell if he was faking it. The Eevee tribe now didn't seem that sinister to her. This was their past it seemed. She would have to ask the tan, Orange, and red Eevee elders about it later.
"From there, we took vengeance upon ourselves. We first got back at them by killing their newborns..."
"Dear Arceus that's dark." Mauve remarked. She looked sick to the stomach.
The green Braixen lifted a paw in the air. "I'm not done. It only gets darker from here." The shiny Vaporeon gritted her teeth. It was certainly a dark story, Fae knew that.
Fae gulped. I don't know if I could imagine just how dark it could get.
"Their attack was much more brutal. They killed our females during pregnancy, and then sliced up their bodies beyond comprehension. It was a bloodbath. Then they got their grimy little brown paws on our Prince. He was a nice Prince. He was realistic, however he was very understanding. Once again, the Eevee tribe was given a chance to spare our Prince and let this battle be done. They, however, bitterly and jealously killed our Prince and spilled more blood..."
The Braixen trailed off with a pained look. "That was thirty years ago, young Eevee and Eeveelutions. You see, us Fennekin and evolutions were willing to forgive and forget about all this harsh battling we've done. The bloodshed over the years is brutal. It's all I've ever known."
"...However, I am done with all this war. But our elders won't let us back out of this war. The Eevee tribe just won't listen to reason." The green Braixen explained.
Was he telling the truth? Fae glanced over towards Eon who nodded his head. Was he a good judge of character? Perhaps. Fae would listen as well.
Fae could hear her legendary friends peek their heads through the door. "If they won't listen," Zen began. "Perhaps we can be of help." The green Braixen let out a startled yelp as he leaped backwards; he almost fell to his tail.
"Zacian? Zamazenta?" The green Braixen managed to remark in shock. Both legendaries nodded their heads to the best of their ability. They had big heads.
The green Braixen smiled genuinely. "I haven't met you personally until now, but I heard you were huge supporters of both of the tribes."
Zen nodded with a grin. "It's nice to meet you, uh..." Zen trailed off before indicating towards the Braixen to tell them his name.
"Oh! How rude of me. I am Parvaiz." The green Braixen bowed before turning his gaze towards everyone individually. "If we are going to make peace I want you all to stand behind me. I understand you are all Eevee and evolutions of Eevee, but you cannot blindly listen to the Eevee Village. Some of them are out for Fennekin blood after all."
"Understood." Mauve remarked. Parvaiz curtly nodded.
"Follow me. We have a discussion with the elders." Parvaiz turned around and headed out the door with his paws behind his back. Fae and the others glanced at each other briefly.
I hope everything goes well. Fae prayed, feeling nervous.
