Chapter 14

Here it is, chapter 14! Hope you enjoy it!

The next morning, the sun shining through the curtains, Flasheart stood before the bookshelf, as Steven and Jessica told him it was called, and looked at the many books. "Curious?" He heard Steven's voice say out, looking over his left shoulder to see the man standing behind him, wearing his dressing gown. "Morning." He spoke, to which Flasheart nodded politely, before they both looked at the books. "Lots of stuff, I think this is." Flasheart spoke. "You Werens have paper, and books, right?" Steven asked, looking Rightwards at Flasheart, who looked leftwards at him, and nodded. "Well, there's history, biology, meteorology, and farming. All neatly organised, as you can see." Steven explained proudly, as he removed a book from the history section, and held it out to Flasheart, who looked down at it then back up at Steven. "I have to fix my ship, but I'll read when I'm not." Flasheart said back before he turned around leftwards and walked towards the door.

A few hours later, whilst working on the ship, Flasheart heard footsteps and smelled Jessica, so he moved to the hole to see her step up to it. In her hands she held a glass of water and a plate with a sandwich on it. "Hey, brought you some food and a drink." She offered. Flasheart looked down at the plate for moment before he bent down and took the plate and glass, sniffed the sandwich, shrugged and smiled back at Jessica. "Uh...thanks." Flasheart replied. "You know, you don't have to use that translator thing. Surely a species as intelligent as yours can master another language." Jessica said, pointing at the translator on Flasheart's ear. Flasheart gave her an unsure look before he moved back into the hole. Jessica stood silently before she turned rightwards and walked back to the house

An hour later, Jessica came back outside to the ship to see if he'd finished with his food, saw Flasheart was standing on the grass by the hole, holding a camera like device, holding by the hole, a grey spray coming from it, forming a grey sheet over the hole as he moved it. Jessica could tell from the look of his face that he was concentrating, so kept silent as he did his work. "Fixed all the main systems. I just need to fill this hole. Should take a day or two, then I'll be able to launch." Flasheart spoke out of the blue, making her jump. "You know, you've been here a full day already, and no one's come here looking for you." Jessica said, which made Flasheart stop spraying and turned his head rightwards to face her. "I was supposed to head back to my people." Flasheart explained, to which Jessica shook her head. "No, no. I don't mean your people, I mean our people. The military. The news haven't even been saying anything about you or this area. It's like they didn't even detect you." Jessica said back. "Well, this ship is small, so it could easily have been interpreted as an asteroid." Flasheart theorised. "What do you by the news?" Flasheart then asked, confused with narrowed eyes. Jessica giggled in response. "You have much to learn. And like we discussed, no rush." She replied. "Your father, Steven, you come back for him out here, away from the city. Why? Why stay here? Why not live together so you can talk about... science?" Flasheart then asked her. "Because this farm has been in our family for generations. He's happy here. And I love him, so don't mind coming all this way for him." Jessica answered with a shrug. "That word, you said. Love. What is love?" Flasheart asked her, confused again. "Love is many things. Love is something you feel, it's a thing that you see, it's a thing that you care for, a thing you protect." Jessica answered with a smile. "Over the next few days, as I finished fixing the ship, I also learned about your planet, your people. I read a lot." Flasheart sat at the dining room table, a pile of books in front of him, reading a book on WW2. One night, Flasheart sat with Jessica on the sofa as they were both watching TV, (as the humans called the thick box with a black screen on it) not bothering what channel it was, just for the fun, as Jessica had described it. "We watched a few movies on DVD, mostly about space. Star Wars was pretty good, Star Trek was a lot to take in, Jaws, Alien and Aliens were scary, the last two teaching me the meaning of greed, Schindler's List taught me about a dark part of your history, Jurassic Park taught me about dinosaurs. Back to the Future was funny. Titanic sort of helped me connect the dots of what she said about love." Flasheart sat at the dining room table, Jessica sitting directly across, a whiteboard and pen in her hands, the translator on the table in between. "Can't." Jessica said as she wrote it in big bold letters on the white board, flipping over for Flasheart. "C-A-N-T. Can't." She repeated. "Can't." Flasheart repeated, though with a thick accent, to the humans it would sound like an Australian accent. Jessica giggled in response. "She even decided to try and teach me English. I got the hang the basics pretty quick, but I could never shake the accent, much to her humour. Before I knew, I had been there a whole Earth week!" Flasheart sat in the cockpit, wearing the outfit he'd arrived in, pressing the buttons on the console, a lot of lights coming on, a smile forming on his face. "Yes! I'm back online!" He yelled out to himself as he then started firing up the engine, resulting in a whining noise growing in volume. Jessica and Steven heard the noise of the engine starting up, causing them to run out of the farm house.

They ran up to the ship, running on the left hand side, coming upon the open door, Flasheart poking his head out of it. "What's going on?" Steven yelled out. "It's all done! I'm going back!" Flasheart yelled back. "Back? As it..." Jessica spoke, before Flasheart answered for her. "Back home!" He yelled in response. "Don't report us in a bad way!" Jessica yelled back, hoping this wouldn't led to an invasion. "Attacking unprovoked isn't our way!" Flasheart yelled back, which kind of soothed their fears. Plus, he'd learned the Humans weren't advanced enough the master intergalactic spaces travel, so wouldn't really be that much of a danger to the Werens. "Goodbye!" Steven spoke with a wave of his left hand. "Thank you!" Flasheart said back, with a smile, seeing Jessica smile in response. Then he closed the door, sat down in the chair, pressed some buttons, causing the ship to lift up off the ground, then tilt upwards, facing the sky, the two humans stepping back. Flasheart sat still the chair momently, before he nodded to himself and pressed a button, firing the engine, a plume of white flame shooting out the back, the ground too wet and muddy to be set on fire. The ship shot up rapidly into the sky, Flasheart keeping his gaze on the blue sky, so similar to his own, as he left the atmosphere. Once in space, he prepared to go faster than light, remembering to switch on the locator, which located the nearest Weren ship, calculating how long the ship would need to go. Once the calculating was done, Flasheart readied himself and pressed the button, the stars and blackness being replaced by light.

As he didn't need to focus on how long he'd be going faster than light, Flasheart let himself relax a tiny bit. Then before he knew it, the console beeped and the light was replaced the stars, blackness, and a Weren ship before him. He smiled as he steered the ship towards it, looking to see he'd gone for 3 weeks. "Bridge, the is LEV1. Fast than light test has been successful. Permission to come aboard?" He asked into the comms, saying that decision the malfunction, the crash and all that, the test had been a success, all things considered. "Permission granted, LEV1. Welcome back." A voice answered on the comms. After that, Flasheart landed the ship into the hanger. He got out as stretched, sniffing the atmosphere he was born to and then heard footsteps. Looking leftwards, he saw Hotspur running up to him with a smile on his face. "May the Moon shine upon you, you brave pilot! Brother, you're back!" He greeted proudly as Flasheart smiled in response. "Good to be back, Brother." Flasheart said back. "What happened out there?" Hotspur asked. "You will know when I report." Flasheart replied as he walked down the hanger, Hotspur standing for moment with a confused expression before he went after him.

Two days later, back on their home plane, Flasheart laid on his bed, looking through the large windows seeing the moon to which they held to high regard, majestically shining in the night. He'd reported that the ship malfunctioned, causing him to land on a slightly primitive, Fangen planet. Hed said that the Humans had no knowledge of his arrival and gave no interruption to his repairs, and he had learned as much as he could about the planet, noting the similarities as well as the differences. He'd stated specifically that the Humans were a species that would not pose any threat to them, and that it would be best to avoid that area of the galaxy. Hotspur had shown interest in his report was curious about the findings of his brother. He'd offered his services for more tests. Somehow, he felt something deep inside him. Somehow he couldn't get the smells of Earth out of his head. What he'd seen. The time he'd spent with Jessica and Steven. He realised then that he'd enjoyed being them. For some reason, he felt, he had to go back.

And that's chapter 14 done! Hope you enjoyed it! Please leave a vote!
